Jones himself said it was a silly and insensitive thing to say.

Of course it was, his mistake was saying on Mike instead of down the pub with his mates after a few. I'll not have a pop at him for that though.

He was, and always will be in my mind, a total fuckng idiot though. Thin line between bravery and outright stupidity. Especially when that involves 22 yards and a cricket ball and Curtly Ambrose.

Presumably because someone showing their true colours on a mic whilst others are bemoaning them being called a racist is quite amusing.

Probably didn’t help when his mic picked up him calling Amla “a terrorist”.

Which was quite amusing.

Very good player and very Australian - had that ability to be respected and hated by me in the same way that so many Australians seem to do

The reverse sweep and switch hits were actually invented by a little known English batsman.

Who in turn passed on his knowledge to me!

Running between wickets
Fielding
Shots ... was playing reverse sweeps in 1987

Mike Gatting was probably imitating him in the 1987 World Cup final
Bad luck fat man

It was a massive heart attack & he tried his best to save a friend & colleague who died in front of him.
How was your day?

Was a very very good Test player (3,631 runs @ 46.55 with 11 centuries) but was a revolutionary player in ODI cricket.
Was at a hotel in Mumbai doing commentary for the IPL .... was walking across the foyer when he collapsed & Brett Lee tried to save him with CPR.
Some very nice tributes on Cricinfo including him & Allan Border talking about his 210 at Chennai in ridiculous heat & humidity which almost killed him.
Terrible news

RIP Deano, one of my heroes growing up.

Whilst he's mostly remembered for his one day game, his double century in India in ridiculous heat has to go down as one of the great test innings.

Great player, very distinctive look with the white zinc sunscreen cream around his lips, probably be accused of being racist in the modern game!

RIP Dean
